My New Game

(Originally posted on 05/06/18)

So, today, as I was bored, I decided to think about starting the Minimalists famous 30 Day minimalism game for June… but that got me thinking, I know they say that you only have one day to actually get rid of the stuff and either decide for definite where it will go, or just get it out your house… but, what exactly do I do with this stuff?

Then I remembered that I am saving every penny I make for a trip to Australia I have one day, to see someone very important to me. So I decided to turn my dilemma into a game for myself to play.

It’s not that good, meaningful or creative tbh, but I think it’s a fun way of:

A) making a few extra £/$/€

B) passing time

C) decluttering and actually having somewhere to take the clutter you decluttered lmao

Lots of minimalists on YouTube tell their viewers to “just donate everything you don’t want” but the harsh reality of real life is that people live below the line all over the world, not just in the countries and targeted areas that charities mainly support, and sometimes to live a meaningful life you have to put yourself and your family first. And minimalism, for some people, is a good way of making the money they truly need to eat and feed their families.

Growing up my dad always use to say “charity starts at home” lol.

The ‘Five Every Five’ Game

~ By Alex ~

Outline Of The Game

This game is about selling stuff, but you could kind of change the concept to fit your life, but I won’t be talking about alternatives in this post.

The 5 every 5 game is as flexible as you want to make it, you can choose where to sell your items that you have decluttered hat are in good condition. It can be online such as eBay, or in person like at a garage sale.

And your task is to sell either:

5 items

5 bags of items

5 car-loads of items

5 pink items

5 soft items

… yeah you get the idea

Every:

5 days

5 weeks

5 minutes

5 years

… still following? Good.

So for an example…

“I would like to sell 5 clothing items in the next 5 days and I will do it on eBay”

But it could be something more manageable like “I will sell 5 of any kind of item over the next 5 months”

Or maybe it could be a long project; “I will sell 5 car-loads worth of stuff over the next 5 years”

I thought of the number 5 because it’s not too little or too much, and can be super flexible and good for your calendar as 5 weeks is usually a month.

I’m definitely going to be following this concept from now on to give myself more motivation to actually get stuff out of my house.
